LIU BOLIN
Liu Bolin crée des œuvres fascinantes mêlant l’art de la performance, la photographie et un esprit de protestation. Dans ses performances intitulées Camoflage, Bolin se recouvre de peinture pour se fondre parfaitement dans le décor de la scène photographiée. Avec l’aide d’assistants, il peut passer jusqu’à 10 heures à peindre son propre corps pour ressembler à une partie du site, avant de se prendre en photo debout à l’intérieur de la scène dans laquelle il parvient à disparaître. Selon l’artiste, sa sérieCamoflage est une métaphore de son sentiment d’anonymat et de l’ostracisme qu’il rencontre en tant qu’artiste contemporain en Chine. Suite à la fermeture de son studio par les officiels chinois en 2005, son travail devient plus ouvertement politique, ce qu’il appelle « une protestation silencieuse… une protestation contre l’État. »
